The Owner
From New York and Hawai‘i,
to the craft of his childhood home.
As a young man he crossed the ocean and opened his own sushi restaurant in New York. He later made Hawai‘i his home, serving the true taste of Japan to local guests for many years.
As he reached the age of retirement and considered the years of craft still ahead, it was the scenery of his hometown that rose to mind. “I want to make a small place in the town where I grew up — somewhere to welcome the people who matter most.” With that wish, he opened the restaurant in his family home, left much as it was, its original warmth intact.
The true comfort of Japan, understood only after years lived abroad. He offers it here, in the spirit of ichigo ichie — a once-in-a-lifetime meeting — at a single counter.
The Space
The quiet ease
of a family home.
Left largely as it was, the original pillars, shoji screens and quiet character of the chef’s childhood home remain just as he knew them.
The goodness of Japan, noticed only after a life lived abroad. Settle in with the ease of returning to a familiar home, and enjoy a master’s craft with no need for ceremony.
